Partial lunar eclipse
28 August 2026
What happens
The Moon passes through Earth's shadow. Sunlight bent by our atmosphere still reaches it, so instead of going dark the disc dims and often turns a deep copper red.
At its deepest, about 97% of the Moon's disc lies inside Earth's shadow.

How to watch
- Safe to watch with the naked eye at every stage. No filter is needed.
- Let your eyes adjust for twenty minutes and keep bright screens away.
- Binoculars deepen the colour, but nothing is required to see it.
