A Jacket Full of Patches, and a Countdown Rehearsal

A Jacket Full of Patches, and a Countdown Rehearsal
Photograph: NASA

I once watched a tailor stitch patches onto an old coat, each one marking a journey the wearer had taken. NASA's Kennedy Space Center gave us something similar this month — a photograph of a jacket covered in Artemis I and II mission patches, hanging quietly on a chair while engineers inside the Rocco A. Petrone Launch Control Center ran a terminal countdown simulation for Artemis III.

The image, dated August 6, 2026, comes from NASA's Exploration Ground Systems team and was published on August 20. It is a small detail, but it tells a larger story: the people behind Artemis III are already rehearsing the final minutes before launch, long before the rocket itself leaves the ground.

For anyone in Asia who tracks the night sky, Artemis marks humanity's return to the Moon, and every rehearsal brings that return closer. Read the full story and see the photograph at NASA.
